The Leinster Juvenile Close Championships were held in the Badminton Centre, Terenure and once again Wexford players were very much to the fore.  The counties top performer in the finals was fourteen year old Laura Butler who won the girls doubles at both under-15 and under-17.  The Davidstown star and her Thomastown partner Kate McDonald who were un-seeded in both grades turned the form book upside down to record their double success. In the under-15 grade the Wexford/Kilkenny combination had a 15/10, 15/8 success over the number two seeds Kirsty Kelly and Ciara Brady (Dublin). Two un-seeded partnerships made the under-17 finals, and again Laura and Kate overcame Dublin opposition to take the title with an impressive 15/8, 15/12 victory over Crona Rooney and Caroline Oliver.  Also in fine form at the finals was Laura Lynch who picked up her 2nd mixed doubles title of the year when she and David Tutty (Dublin) had a 15/5, 15/13 victory over Mark Cobbe and Laura Coe (Laois).  Laura also made the girls singles final and pushed the Irish number one Joanne Flanagan all the way before losing 11-9, 11-7 in a game that featured excellent singles play from both girls.  Also doing well were Alan Nolan and Dimitri Panagopoulos who faced the Dublin pairing of Owen Marron and Luke Moore in the under-15 boy’s doubles final.  In the final however the more attack minded Dublin pairing were the winners on a 15/11, 15/5 score line.  Nine year old Karen Butler continues to add to her experience and once again the young Davidstown club player made a national final in her first competitive year playing.  Karen lost the under-11 girls singles decider by the narrowest possible margin 21/21 to Marie McGrath (Dublin). After a first round loss in the under-15 girls singles Taghmon colleagues and cousins Aoife and Eimer Dunne made it to the plate final where the extra experience of Aoife saw her take the title 21/4.
