There are also 2 associate members Karen Butler (Davidstown) and Aoife O’Keefe (Clonard) who because of their young age are unable to become full members, but who so impressed both coaches that they are being invited along to observe the work of the squad and to participate where space and activities permit.

Visit of Natioal Coach

National coach Bo Omosegard was welcome visitor to the RD Squads on the 14th January 05 and the 7th February 05.  He was extremely pleased with the progress being made with the squads and was full of praise for the work being done by the squad members and coaches.  Needless to say he was more than willing to provide advice and coaching on both nights and hopefully we will see again in the near future.

The Badminton Regional Development Squad has continued to meet twice weekly in Ramsgrange Community College under the guidance of BUI high performance coach Liam Sinnott and his team of local coaches.   Thirteen of Wexford’s most promising under-age badminton stars plus Terence McSweeney from Waterford have been undergoing training in badminton techniques and technical skills as part of the national programme undertaken by the BUI to develop the sport.  Already the squad can boost of having two members on Irish national teams and five members who are part of Leinster Provincial squads.  The players compete regularly in national competitions and already the benefits of the extra training and coaching are paying dividends with some impressive performances from the local athletes in recent events.  National coach Bo Osomegaard has twice visited the squad to check on the progress of the group and to pass on his considerable knowledge of the game at international level to the players and coaches.  Squad training is set to continue over the summer months but on a slightly reduced scale as the players perfect their skills in preparation for the new season in September.  Squad Members: Ciara Dunne, Eimer Dunne, Elaine Dunne, Clodagh Kent, Alan Nolan, Nicholas Murphy (Taghmon), John Cummins, Dimitri Panagopoulos, Bobby O’Keeffe, (Clonard) Aoife O’Keeffe (Olympic), Karen Butler, Laura Butler (Davidstown), Aoife Bennett, Laura Lynch (New Ross) Terence McSweeney (Waterford).  Coaching Team: Leader: Liam Sinnott , plus Miriam Butler, Seamus Creane, Pat Furlong, Laurena Kent, Pat Lynch and Ralph Stone . Joining the coaching team in May will be Dick O’Rafferty
